PPCC Board Meeting Recap - 9/11/25
Here's a brief recap of our September 11th meeting:

Moment of Silence:
A moment of silence was held at the beginning of the meeting to commemorate the 24th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

Presentations:

The September 11th meeting featured two presentations:
  • Friends of the Library President Cameron Pfizenmaier reported that a temporary building will be placed on tennis courts 7 and 8 at the Recreation Center, to house both the Library and a Recreation and Parks office. The Library space will include a community room.  Timing is uncertain.  As to the permanent Library rebuild, a permit has not yet been issued but architects are being considered.  The Library will be built on the same site as the previous location, and community input will be sought as to needs. There is no time estimate for the rebuild.
  • Kristen Wong of the Bureau of Engineering provided information about much-needed bulkhead / retaining wall projects on streets in Castellammare and on Bienveneda.  She showed slides and explained each of the projects, which involved installation of concrete and steel bulkheads.  A link to the recording of both presentations can be accessed on PacPaliCC.
Grant Approvals:
The Board unanimously approved two Grants, from donations received by PPCC, to the following: the Palisades Forestry Committee (PFC) and The Crayon Collection. See the 9/11 Agenda (item 9.1) for more information.

Bylaws Amendments:
The First Distribution of new proposedl bylaws amendments, took place, with a vote on the amendments set for the September 25th Board meeting. One of the amendments is to add the new Malibu-Palisades Chamber of Commerce as a PPCC organizational member. The proposed amendments can be seen at PacPaliCC..

Committee Reports:
  • The Rebuild Committee reported that letters regarding the PPCC-NORC community survey have been emailed to a limited extent in a first phase; more emails will be sent in the coming week.
  • The LUC Committee reported that Planning officials have advised that to date, no permit applications have been filed for multi-family buildings on Sunset Blvd.  The Planning Dept. is ware of our concerns regarding density and unsafe evacuations.
Additional Announcements:
We heard several announcements from the President, Board members and government reps. A few highlights from the President's reports:
  • The President announced that we have secured Spruzzo restaurant as the venue for the annual "Citizen of the Year" awards dinner, to take place on December 11 -- more information to come!
  • She noted that PPCC has made a sponsorship contribution to the Palisades Elementary Yee Haw Day event, a fundraiser for enrichment programs provided by the school's parent organization.
  • She also expressed our sorrow at the recent passing of longtime, respected Board member and PP Historical Society past President, Eric Dugdale.

News and Events
SB 79 Status

This bill unfortunately passed narrowly on September 11th in the state legislature (by only one vote in the Senate and two votes in the Assembly); it has now been forwarded to Governor Newsom for possible signature or veto. PPCC has submitted the following letter to Governor Newsom urgently requesting his veto. Individuals who wish the Governor to veto SB 79 should also submit a statement to him ASAP at Contact the Governor -- or call the Governor's office to leave a message at (916) 445-2841.

Please note:  Although we were informed during the September 11th meeting that our Asm. Jacqui Irwin had been listed as a "No Vote Recorded (NVR)" -- the equivalent of a No vote  on the bill -- she was actually not present at the time of the NVR listing and then returned to the chamber to officially vote No on the bill when the final floor vote was called.  Both she and our Sen. Ben Allen are opposed to SB 79, as are Mayor Karen Bass and our Councilwoman Traci Park.
