Since the October 8th Coastal Commission decision to approve a Coastal Development Permit (CDP) for the Gladstones redevelopment project, PPCC has heard from many community members who are concerned about the process and ask how the project could have been approved without prior community input or sufficient advance notice. While PPCC has not taken a position on the project to date, the PPCC Executive Committee (EC) shares these concerns and believes that although a CDP has been issued, information about the project should now be shared by project proponents so that residents can assess potential project impacts.
Accordingly, PPCC will host a special meeting on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at 6pm via Zoom, which will feature County officials (representatives of Beaches & Harbors and the Supervisor's office), as well as the concessionaire/developer (Thomas Tellefsen of PCH Beach Associates/PBA), who will hopefully explain the project in detail and answer the community's questions. Stay tuned for the meeting agenda, to be distributed on Monday, October 27, 2025.
In the meantime, the EC has prepared the following Memo to the Palisades Community, with a timeline of key events from 2016-2025. See the memo linked in the blue button below.
The concerning takeaway: in seven years, relevant government officials and PBA failed to notify, disclose or apprise PPCC and the community of project plans, statusand significant developments (other than a few long-ago limited updates and a brief announcement this summer, as described in the memo below).
We hope that sufficient information will now be provided to the community at the meeting on October 30th.
