PPCC Thanks Our First Responders and
All Who Helped and Cooperated

The fire yesterday in Pacific Palisades (between Palisades Drive and both Charmel Lane and Vista Grande Drive) threatened many houses on the ridge above.  Approximately 200 homes in Upper Marquez were under mandatory evacuation.  While some homes may have been scorched, none were destroyed by fire. Thankfully, there was no loss of life or serious injury.

Pacific Palisades Community Council (PPCC) offers a grateful thank you to all of the first responders who protected our community: Los Angeles City Fire Department, Los Angeles County Fire Department, Los Angeles Police Department, CalFire (planes), and all of the agencies, schools, and people who helped.  We also saw many instances of neighbors helping neighbors in the threatened area and in the greater Palisades.  Thank you to everyone who helped and cooperated.

This is not an isolated incident or threat. Wildfires are a way of life in Pacific Palisades.  The last super fire that burned through the Santa Monica Mountains interface with Pacific Palisades and Brentwood was 1978, when many homes were lost and St. Matthews Church burned to the ground.  Much of the native growth has been untouched by fire since then.

As we continue to face the threat of wildfires with dry conditions and the ongoing Santa Ana winds, PPCC invites the community to visit our Disaster Readiness page. Cathi Ruddy is PPCC's Emergency Preparedness Liaison and Woman's Club representative to PPCC.  This site features contact information for Cathi, links to neighborhood preparedness information (MYN and RYLAN) and a wealth of resources on how to protect against wildfires, earthquakes and other emergencies.  Your best response to an emergency is for you and your close neighbors to be prepared.

Thank you to all of the first responders and to everyone who helped others.
