What's on the Agenda?

We have another packed agenda for our second meeting in September:

Presentations:

-- The County Public Works Dept. will give an update on the status of work on the Marvin Braude Trail/Santa Monica Canyon Restoration.

Committees:
-- The Grants Committee is pleased to recommend, for Board approval, five new PPCC grants from funds received by PPCC. See the proposed recipients and the Committee's reports on the grants
in the agenda linked above (item 9.2).

-- The Bylaws Committee is recommending additional amendments to the PPCC Bylaws, including to add the Malibu-Palisades Chamber of Commerce as a PPCC organizational member (2nd Distribution and Board vote on  the proposed amendments);  see the Committee's report and redline and clean versions of the amendments at
PacPaliCC, and in the agenda (item 9.1).

-- We'll have a further update by the Rebuild Committee on the NORC-PPCC community survey status.

-- The President will also announce the members of three new PPCC committees: the Awards Selection and Awards Event Committees (required for the 2025 Citizen of the Year Awards), and a new, important Undergrounding Committee (to study and present information and recommendations regarding  the undergrounding of utilities during the rebuild).

Motion:
-- The Board will vote on a motion sponsored by the Land Use Committee (LUC) to support a motion by CW Park calling for a report on the impacts of SB 79 on the city of LA.  See item 11.3 on the agenda linked above.

Additional Matters & Announcements:
-- We will thank outgoing organizational Board members and the President will recognize the new members joining the Board as of October 1, 2025.

-- As always, we'll have reports and announcements from the President, Board members, government representatives and advisors.

Recent Developments -- SB 79 and Zone Zero

SB 79:  We are awaiting word on whether the Governor will sign or veto SB 79 (if he does neither by October 12, 2025, the bill will become law). Meanwhile, not only PPCC, but also Mayor Bass, CW Park and the Westside Regional Alliance of Councils (WRAC), have all requested that Gov. Newsom veto this dangerous and unnecessary bill.  We thank the Mayor and Councilwoman for their letters and support, and we'll continue to monitor.

Zone Zero: The State Board of Forestry Zone Zero Advisory Committee met at the Pasadena Convention Center last Thursday for more than six hours, with hundreds of in-person and online attendees, including several PPCC Board members and Palisades residents.

Public comments at the meeting
overwhelmingly indicated support for fire safety through local control and science-based rules rather than the draconian proposed statewide Zone 0 regulations -- including comments from CW Park; see the Councilwoman's letter HERE.  See also the recent PPCC letter, as well as a comment letter from five LA Councilmembers and a critical report from LAFD and the LA Community Forestry Committee. There will be additional online meetings before regulations are finalized and adopted by the end of the year. We thank CW Park for her support.
