Vaccine 2nd Doses Follow Up

Following up on PPCC’s earlier 1/29 message, we've received the following information from Lonnie Resser, Health Program Analyst with the LA County Public Health Dept. (speaker at our 1/28 meeting):
  • "In LA County, every resident is guaranteed a second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. The mechanisms for getting the second dose differ depending on where the first dose was acquired. All are described on a new ["Second Doses"] webpage.  Click on the nurses' image above to access the new webpage.
  • For those who got their first dose at a county site, they will receive an email later this week confirming the location and time of their second dose appointment. The date will be the same as the date that was listed on the back of the white vaccination card.

  • COVID-19 vaccinations for children: We have to wait for more information on this.

  • Additional concerns about scheduling second doses: The county monitors how many people currently eligible for vaccine are due for their second dose, and aims to reserve enough supply to offer second doses to everyone who has received their first at the appropriate interval. For those with second doses due in a few weeks, please have patience as we build out the infrastructure and systems to swiftly offer everyone their second doses. Those who are due for their second doses sooner will be prioritized."

Good News

From County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl:

"Just when we need a little good news, the National Park Service has announced an important new addition to its mountain lion study: P-95!

"P-95 is a young puma—about one and a half years old—weighing in at roughly 90 pounds. After performing a health check-up “from the bottom of his paws to the teeth in his head,” NPS says he is in good health, and based on some chirping they overheard along with a quick glance, it appears he is traveling either with a sibling or his mother!

"As one of only two megacities in the whole world with big cats living in our City limits (the other being Mumbai, India) it is imperative that LA support these wonderous creatures by caring for the environment and considering their well-being in all our policies.
